With its 1 ½" thickness, the matala is offered in medium density or high density to provide both biological and mechanical filtration. Additionally the filter offers a semi-rigid and self supporting structure that is built with a thermopoly propylene compound which is nontoxic to the environment. These filter pads are easy to clean and self supporting. The various densities can be used in sequence or separately for unique filtration requirements. This is one of the greatest characteristics which Matala has to offer. Matala effectively separates large particles to small and still maintains a very aerobic and free flow of water without channeling. Matala is slightly buoyant and will not sink to the bottom of your filter. Matala stood vertically on end will not float. Matala stacked horizontally will hold each other down. Due to it's rigidity the Matala can be wedged in place in the filter without support. The Black pad has the least density followed by Green, Blue and Gray. Semi-rigid and self-supporting. Made of non-toxic Thermopoly Propylene. Black is approximately 1 7/8"" thick. Green, Blue and White are approximately 1 1/2"" thick.
